Guided tour of Holborough Marsh nature reserve and SSSI led by Stephen Weeks, estates manager, Kent Wildlife Trust
This 35-hectare (86-acre) nature reserve and SSSI, on the flood plain of the River Medway, contains a superb range of wetland habitats with freshwater marshes, reed beds, wet grassland, scrub, and freshwater and saline dykes providing suitable habitats for a variety of plant species including marsh-mallow and early and southern marsh-orchids. In addition, there are reports of water voles and nesting sites for a range of birds including reed buntings, sedge warblers and nightingales.
Please arrive at 10:45 for an 11:00 start to the guided tour. Sturdy waterproof boots are recommended.
Access to the reserve is from the new Peters Bridge road, just north of the town of Snodland. If you are coming from the A228, take the turning sign posted for the new Peters Village development at the roundabout just south of Halling. Follow the road for about 100m and you will see a metal field gate set back from the round on the right hand side. Turn into the gate and follow the track down to the large open area where cars can be parked.
However if you are delayed and the gate is locked, there is room to park a car by the side of the gate.
