The 2022 New Year’s Honours List recognises a number of members and Fellows of the Royal Society of Biology for their bioscience and community work.

Sir Paul Nurse Hon FRSB, chief executive and director, Francis Crick Institute, was awarded a Companion of Honour for services to science and medicine in the UK and abroad.

Professor Sir Jonathan Nguyen-Van-Tam MBE CBiol FRSB, deputy chief medical officer, received a Knighthood for services to public health.

Professor Sir John Hardy FRS FRSB, chair of the molecular biology of neurological disease, University College London, received a Knighthood for services to human health in improving understanding of dementia and neurodegenerative diseases.

Professor Peter Openshaw FRSB, professor of experimental medicine and proconsul at Imperial College London, received a CBE for services to medicine and immunology.

Dr John Stageman FRSB, chairman of LifeArc, received a CBE for services to the translation of medical research.

Professor Nicola Spence PHP FRSB, deputy director, plant and bee health and chief plant health officer, Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, received a CBE for services to plant health.

Professor Diana Anderson CBiol FRSB, professor of biomedical sciences, University of Bradford received a CBE for services to genetic and reproductive toxicology.

Dr Ruth March FRSB, senior vice president, precision medicine and biosamples, AstraZeneca received an OBE for services to UK science and the COVID-19 response.

Professor Hugh Montgomery FRSB, professor of intensive care medicine, University College London, received an OBE for services to intensive care medicine and climate change.

Dr Roger Highfield CBiol Hon FRSB, science director, science museum group, received an OBE for services to public engagement with science.

The New Year Honours list for 2022 recognises the achievements and service of extraordinary people across the United Kingdom.
