The flagship event for undergraduates studying biological sciences saw students attend in their hundreds to learn more about career choices and improve their CV writing and interview skills

The annual careers day, held as part of Biology Week 2017 on Saturday 14th October 2017 at King’s College London, provided undergraduate students with the perfect opportunity to engage with bioscience professionals and begin thinking about their career path following university.

Throughout the day there were presentations about careers in clinical sciences, research and fieldwork alongside talks on science policy, science communication and teaching. Students also had the opportunity to build upon their employability skills with a CV workshop and to take part in mock interviews and receive detailed feedback.

140 interviews were held throughout the day, with bioscience professionals from a range of careers acting as interviewers.

The exhibition area featured universities, learned societies and life science organisations from across the country, which showcased the opportunities available for bioscience graduates. Exhibitors provided information about postgraduate study, learned society membership and job opportunities, alongside careers advice.

A panel discussion, titled “What else can I do with my bioscience degree?” gave students interested in pursuing a career outside of research, academia or industry the opportunity to hear from publishing, patent law and marketing experts.

Poonam, a biochemistry student at the University of Birmingham, said: "One thing I've really enjoyed about today is learning about how many different things I can do, that aren't just further study".
