Overview
The ‘Introduction to CellProfiler for image analysis' course is designed for research scientists who use microscopy and want to learn how to use Cellprofiler, a free open-source image analysis software used to quantify microscopy data.
Common uses are counting cells and nuclei, quantifying the signal of reporters in the segmented images, as well as measuring size distribution of segmented objects, and much more. Attendees do not require any computer programming or coding experience.
The course will be presented by Todd Fallesen, Principal Image Analyst in the
Advanced Light Microscopy facility at the Francis Crick Institute. Todd will support students in understanding the concepts behind CellProfiler image analysis, and how to link together modules to implement their own Image Analysis pipelines.
By the end of the training, delegates will be able to:
- Understand when CellProfiler can be used.
- Understand objects and modules in CellProfiler.
- Prepare images for CellProfiler analysis.
- Segment objects, use Machine Learning Segmentation Maps and build a pipeline to relate objects inside of other objects (i.e. FISH inside a nucleus).
- Build and troubleshoot a CellProfiler pipeline.
CPD
This training is approved by the Royal Society of Biology. Training course approval is an independent review process that recognises relevant, high quality training. Upon completion of this course, attendees can claim 12 CPD points.

Participants will be expected to have experience with basic microscopy and data analysis, and have a dataset to analyse.
