A training course in collaboration between Fondazione Guido Bernardini and the Francis Crick Institute. The training will cover the best practice elements of running a Colony Management (CM) programme, from sourcing and validating your mouse models (via genotyping, genetic monitoring, phenotyping), to optimal management and performance of the lines, as well as breeding cohorts, archiving and rederivation strategies.
The course will be run by the Colony Management team from Francis Crick Institute Biological Research Facility (BRF), aiming to provide a discreet, flexible and comprehensive package of support that enables the efficient and effective mouse management of colonies at the Crick.
Learning outcomes
- Understand the key factors required for optimal colony management (CM);
- Understand and apply useful tips and tools to assist with implementation of optimal colony management;
- Understand and apply the organisational management structures and services necessary for optimal CM;
- Understand quality assurance and maintenance processes of inbred & GA strains, and evaluate their own set up to implement relevant pipelines;
- Evaluate data analysis for GA Colonies, with particular reference to genetic background and microbiome.
Continuing Professional Development (CPD)
This training is approved by the Royal Society of Biology. Training course approval is an independent review process that recognises relevant, high quality training. Upon completion of this course, attendees can claim 48 CPD points.
