Five distinguished Fellows and members of the Society of Biology have been named in the Queen’s Birthday Honours list, announced on Monday.

Professor Charles Peter Downes FSB, Principal and Vice-Chancellor, University of Dundee, has been appointed a Knight Bachelor for services to higher education and life sciences.

Professor Lesley Anne Glover FSB, Vice Principal for External Affairs and Dean for Europe, Aberdeen University and former Chief Scientific Adviser to the President of the European Commission, has been appointed a Dame for services to science.

Dr Angela Mary Cecilia Gallop FSB, co-founder and chief executive, Axiom International Ltd, has been appointed CBE for services to higher education and to forensic science.

Professor Trevor Werner Drew MSB, lead scientist viral diseases, Animal and Plant Health Agency, has been appointed CBE for services to animal health and welfare.

Dr Timothy David Wyatt FSB has been appointed CBE for services to the advancement of healthcare science and the community in Northern Ireland.
