The third and final talk organised by the University of Oxford's department of Biology for Biology Week 2024.

In this talk, Tim Coulson, professor of zoology at the University of Oxford, will take you back to the beginning of everything: the Big Bang. From there, he will lead you through a 13.8-billion-year epic - a talk that culminates in the most astonishing thing we have yet encountered: the staggering complexity of the human mind. The talk will describe the history of you, the speaker and everything - of how we all came to be. In short, it is the greatest story ever told.

Professor Tim Coulson

Tim is professor of zoology and current join head of the department of biology at the University of Oxford. He is a leading expert in population biology and evolutionary ecology, interested in how the addition or loss of predators has ecological and evolutionary impacts on populations, communities and ecosystems. Coupling theoretical models to management and conservation practice, his research results in successful practical applications in conservation biology.

He is dedicated to science communication and education and has recently published his first popular science book The Universal History of Us: A 13.8 billion year tale from the Big Bang to you, a complete, uncomplicated guide to the science of life, the universe and everything.
