Textbooks – an endangered species?

Don't phase out traditional methods for more fashionable ways to learn science, warns Tim Oates

There have been seismic shifts in education recently, including a new national curriculum, new sets of GCSEs and a change in national tests. However, longer term, incremental change, which often passes unnoticed, can also relocate the tectonic plates of education, and it doesn't always leave the system in a better state. In England, the shift away from textbooks falls into this category.
